The firm was founded in 1835 by Leopoldo Janesich, in Trieste, his native town. In the most traditional 19th Century style, the Janesich jewels were first cherished by the Austrian aristocracy, who made of Trieste their favourite vacation destination, then by the Italian bourgeoisie. At Leopoldo’s death, his son Giovanni took the firm in hands brilliantly. He expanded the company and in 1896 opened a shop in Paris, managed by his brother Alberto, a gem passionate. His son, Giuseppe, having inherited the art of jewellery drawing, stayed in Trieste and was the responsible for the artistic orientations.
Only World War I temporarily slowed their success. After the war, the Janesich style became definitely Art Deco, keeping with the great fashion of the 1920’s, they have had a growing fame. In 1918 premises were opened in Montecarlo, Deauville and Vichy.
Trieste becoming an Italian city, Janesich was appointed jeweller to the House of Savoie in 1925, and to the house of Aoste in 1933. Piero, called Momo, son of Giuseppe, carried on the family tradition at his father’s death, but closing the French shop at the beginning of World War II to concentrate the activity in Italy. The company lost a little of its renown but still created marvelous pieces. The sixth generation is represented by Francesco, still in the shop creates by his ancestor, nearly 175 years ago, in Trieste.
