    The firm was created by Georges Piaget in 1874 in La-Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland (Neuchâtel). Since the very beginning, he decided to develop the lever escapement movement with the intention to improve the production of extra-thin watches. The company was supplier to many famous brands, before introducing watches under their own name in the late 1940s.
    Throught the epoch the firm remained a family business and in 1945 was the third generation directing it. Gérald was the marketing directior who was responsible for the artistic orientation for wich the company is known today. Valentin was the master technician. In 1957 the legendary caliber 9P was introduced, the finnest movement ever produced. In 1959, focusing on the international wealthy clientele, Piaget opened his first shop in Geneva. They soon became famous for their revolutionnary choice to produce watches only in gold and platinum. In 1964, Piaget created the stone dial, using about 30 different types of hard stones, such as lapis lazuli, turqoise, jade, opal and coral. Those oeuvres were enriched by precious stones. Today those creations of a very modern design and featuring striking colours, are considered as the most sought after lady's watches.
