The firm of Mellerio dits Meller is the longest running jewellery firm in history. Established in Italy during the 16th Century, their business started thanks to a royal privilege granted in 1613 by Marie de Médicis and renewed successively by Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI. The company established a base in Paris in 1515, but it was not until the 18th Century that
they developed real notoriety in France, when Jean Baptiste Mellerio created jewels for Marie Antoinette. This association with French nobility continued into the 19th Century, as the firm provided pieces to Empress Josephine under the new French Empire, and later to Queen Marie-Amelie and King Louis Phillipe. Since, many families of the European aristocracy and upper classes have chosen to wear Mellerio's jewels.
Since 1815, its boutique and workshop are located on Rue de la Paix, in Paris. The firm continues to trade today.
