Pair of earrings in 18 cts. yellow gold designed as a gold bead surmounting a strap work supporting a gold drop. Hook fittings, gold worked in filigree and granulation. Original fitted box in moroccan leather, satin silk and velvet.
Overall in very good condition. Signs of wear as commensurate to age. To the best of our knowledge, the style of the box could be considered of italian provenance.
This pair of earrings is a testament of the XIXth century eclecticism style due to the varied inspiration they are composed of.
The design with a drop, en pendeloque, is very typical of the Louis XVI revival style remembering Marie-Antoinette's pearls jewellery. In France, Empress Eugénie made this style very fashionable during 1860-70s.
The filigree and granulation techniques were largely used by etruscans and were revived due to the archaeological excavations promoted in Tuscany during 1860-70s. We remark that here the gold has been here tarnished on the surface giving it a pleasing matt patina like it could be seen in true antique roman pieces.
The work is completed by a knot and belt motif, which typically comes from the 1830s romantic jewellery assuming the significance of long lasting love.
The completeness of the earrings with the original box in very good conditions and the originality of design make this jewel a very collectible piece.
