Born in Latvia (Russia), the two eldest brothers of the Heyman family, Oscar and Nathan, were sent in their teenage years to work with their uncle in Ukraine, in a Fabergé workshop. Soon after their return home in 1906, they decided to leave for New York where they settled as a jeweller for Oscar and as a tool maker for Nathan. Joined by their brother Harry, they founded Oscar Heyman & Bros Inc. in 1912. The combination of their unique experience with platinum earned in Russia and their skills in toolmaking had led them to control all the steps of their production, having a self-contained company where the quality of the craftmanship was at its highest.
Known as the "jeweller's jeweller", most famous jewellery firms such as Cartier or Tiffany have asked them to produce their jewellery. Masters in invisibly-set mounting, which they produced for years for Van Cleef & Arpels, their jewels are famous for their exceptional quality. Oscar Heyman & Bros. Inc. is still today owned and ran by the Heyman family.
