This Italian family jewellery house was founded in 1884 by Sotirio Bulgari, a Greek silversmith. Their current Via Condotti's flagship store in Rome was opened in 1905, followed by New York, Geneva, Monte Carlo and Paris' shops in the seventies.
Bulgari's name evokes yellow gold, cabochon gemstones, striking colours, volume and clean shapes. Their were among the first to synthesize the Italian style, characterised by a bold design inherited from the antique Roman and Etruscan civilisations.
During 1930-40s, Sotirio's sons Giorgio and Costantino led the firm into modernity creating jewelery, dealing with antiques and publishing a study about Italian silversmiths, which is still today the main reference.
Jeweller of legend representing the Italian dolce vita with Sophia Loren, some of its jewels are iconic such as the coins collection as well as the snakes watches. Its creations are cherished by the most famous stars and in particular by Elizabeth Taylor who deeply prized Bulgari jewels'. Her husband Richard Burton said: "The only word Elizabeth knows in Italian is Bulgari".
Today, Bulgari is still run by the family within the LVMH group and keeps creating colourful jewels.
